Lesotho Meteorological Services
This project will undertake and update the third GHG inventory of Lesotho and identify appropriate mitigation options. It will also design and setup Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system in an effort to track progress relating to emission reductions. The project will be implemented over a period of 3 years from 2017 to 2019.
Lesotho’s contribution to the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is insignificant. However, Lesotho remains a net emitter of GHG with Agriculture Forestry and Land Use (AFOLU), and Energy as major emitting factors. Thus there is need to reduce emissions in these sectors. Although Lesotho has previously national GHG inventories, there has been limited institutional and technical capacity in this aspect, especially in terms of data collection and being able to track emissions and co-benefits related to mitigation actions and support.
The objective of the project therefore is to strengthen institutional and technical capacities to collect, monitor, report and verify data for the purposes of GHG inventories.
The main components of the project are:
National circumstances and institutional arrangements; National GHG inventory; Mitigation actions and their effects; and Domestic Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV).
